Antique Spanish Colonial Inscribed Silver Santo Filigree Crown

This is a wonderful 19th century Spanish colonial silver crown intended for a large church Santo or Madonna. The silver crown has been exquisitely formed from filigreed silver, a style that was embraced in colonial South America in the 18th and 19th centuries, and was referred to as silver lace. The inside appendages are not soldered, but fit into a "joiner", typical of 18th and 19th c. crowns. There is minor loss to the filigree from the years, but this does not detract from it's beauty. The crown was most probably given to a church for a large Santo or Madonna as a devotional gift, as it has an inscription across the inside band "Rdo de Hernando Salvador y Sra. 5/8/61". This crown is a treasure! It is a reminder of the exquisite silverwork of Colonial South America - a wonderful devotional item for any collection of religious art.
